Industri muzik protes kematian George Floyd melalui #BlackoutTuesday

JUTAAN pengguna media sosial memuat naik foto tanpa gambar berwarna hitam sebagai sokongan terhadap kempen #BlackoutTuesday, yang diwujudkan sebagai tanda protes kematian George Floyd.

Bintang antarabangsa seperti Rihanna, Jamie Foxx, Katy Perry dan Britney Spears serta tidak ketinggalan bintang bola sepak, Gary Lineker antara yang terawal menunjukkan sokongan dengan entri di laman sosial masing-masing.

Floyd, yang berketurunan Afrika-Amerika, meninggal dunia di Minneapolis minggu lalu.

Seorang pegawai polis berkulit putih dirakam berlutut di lehernya selama beberapa minit semasa menahannya kerana didakwa menggunakan wang kertas AS$20 palsu.

Inisiatif #BlackoutTuesday dimulakan oleh beberapa syarikat rakaman dan gergasi industri muzik, antara lain meminta semua bentuk hiburan dan muzik dihentikan selama sehari sebagai tanda protes.

What the world needs now is love my heart breaks for my friends in the black community …. and for everything going on in our country. I try to live my life to answer the question, “How can I be of service?” I have spent the last few days watching, listening and reflecting about how to utilize my privilege and platform. I hope that #BlackoutTuesday gives us all (especially in the music industry) an opportunity to take what we’re learning and put it into action on Wednesday, and every day going forward.
